Just A Thought: Rethink BMI

Waist Measurement Chart

According to Fitness magazine:
"Using the body mass index is so 2013.
BMI doesn't differentiate between muscle and fat or account for how either is distributed. That means sedentary folk and short people have an unfair advantage over athletes and those who are tall. "A waist-to-height ration is an easy, accurate alternative," says Mitchell Lazar, M.D., PH.D., a coauthor of a recent article on the subject. your waist circumference should be less than half of your height (both measured in inches)."

Remember to measure at your natural waist like the lady in the pic above!

DIY: Lip Scrubs

"Pamper Your Kisser for Spring with Eco-Friendly Lip Care" DIY lip care recipes and products with natural ingredients for year round, not just spring.

It's that time of year when your lips are uber dry and super flaky.
Take care of them with one of these easy DIY scrubs and follow up with your favorite moisturizer!

Here is Gilliam’s DIY lip scrub recipe:
  • Mix 1 tablespoon organic coconut oil (like Nutiva or Mountain Rose Herbs), 1 tablespoon organic or all natural raw honey, and 2 teaspoons of organic brown sugar.
  • Use a toothbrush or your finger to apply the mixture with a gentle back and forth motion on your lips.
  • You can also substitute the organic brown sugar for regular organic sugar or organic coconut flakes.
  • Organic coconut oil by itself also makes a great lip conditioner.
Another DIY lip scrub recipe comes courtesy of BellaSugar. You will need:
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons white granulated sugar
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • Mix the ingredients into a paste, and apply.

Just A Thought: Study while you exercise

According to David Bucci, PH.D.,
a professor of psychological and brain sciences at Dartmouth College,
"Exercise promotes brain cell growth and connections between cells for encoding information."

What does that mean? It means, if you are doing some light physical activity while reading or listening to an audiobook (for example) you will retain more information than if you were reading or listening while doing nothing.

So mount that stationary bike and grab the latest issue of your favorite
educational material to learn while you burn!

DIY: Eye Make Up Remover

014
This recipe is from kristanlynn.com
I love this DIY and wanted to share it!
The author says:
"Eye make-up remover is so darn expensive!
Here is a quick and cheap DIY Eye Make-up Remover recipe.
If you have kids, you’ll have the materials!
If you don’t… and you have to buy ingredients,
well, you’ll spend less than 3 dollars!
And get at least 30 bottles of remover.
Ingredients:
1 C water
1½ TBSP Baby Shampoo (tear free)
⅛ TSP Baby Oil (Cocunut Oil or Olive Oil) EDIT! Due to the overwhelming response to my use of Baby Oil. Please Note: Some say you should not use Baby Oil on your face, others say you should not use it period. If you are worried about it’s effects, just use Coconut Oil or Olive Oil. I will say that I have super duper expensive eye cream, that has mineral oil in it… andddd I don’t see a problem with it, BUT that’s just me. =) I mean c’mon… it’s like literally a DROP of oil you’re using. LOL. To each his own. Next time I make it I’ll probably try the coconut oil.
Materials:
Mixing Bowl
Measuring cup/spoons
Bottle to put finished product in (I used an empty medicine bottle; an empty baby oil bottle would work GREAT)
Small funnel (or improvise like me)

Combine ingredients.
StirPour
I didn’t have a funnel.. and didn’t feel like messing with a  make-shift one.
I poured the mix from the bowl into a plastic cup (I guess I could have just mixed it in the cup?!)
I squeezed the top of the cup into a point and poured. Worked just fine."

Just A Thought: Health

Fitness magazine featured Krystal Bernardyn in their January 2014 edition because she lost 95 lbs. What worked for her according the article?
Taking a 30 minute walk when a craving hit.
Then deciding if she really wanted the food or if she was just looking for something to do.
Using Pinterest to find healthy slow cooker recipes.
Targeting her fitness trouble spot daily.
Working out to pop favorites like Paramore, Maroon 5 and Lady Gaga.
She also said that she strictly focused on fitness until her weight loss plateaued. Then she started keeping a food journal and counting calories using a free app on her smart phone.
I love success stories like these and wanted to share!
